Dog Friendly Outdoor Activities
Hilton Head Island is a paradise for dog lovers, offering miles of scenic trails, pet-friendly beaches, and designated spaces for your furry friend to run and play. While Beaufort County has a leash law requiring dogs to be on a leash in public areas, there are still plenty of places where your pup can stretch their legs, socialize, and enjoy some off-leash fun.
Understanding the Leash Law on Hilton Head Island Beaufort County's leash law ensures the safety of both pets and people by requiring dogs to remain on a leash in public spaces, including parks and beaches. However, the island recognizes the importance of allowing dogs to run freely in designated areas, which is why Hilton Head has a well-maintained dog park where off-leash play is welcome.
Chaplin Community Park Dog Park

- Shaded seating for owners
- Water stations for hydration
- Waste bags and disposal stations
This is a great place for your pup to meet new friends and burn off some energy!
Burkes Beach & Chaplin Park Trails

Jarvis Creek Park:
Though dogs must remain on a leash, Jarvis Creek Park offers expansive green space and beautiful walking trails that make for a great outdoor adventure with your pup. The park features picnic areas, water views, and plenty of shaded spots for rest breaks.
Seasonal Beach Rules for Dogs

October – March: Dogs can be off-leash anytime, provided they remain under voice control.
April – September: Dogs are not permitted on the beach between 10 AM and 5 PM. They must be leashed at all other times.
